Converting Systems Inc. is a leading designer, manufacturer and rebuilder of converting machinery (winders, bag machines, bag separators) for the flexible film industry. Our division, CSI-Parts, also provides new and re-engineered replacement parts. Founded in 1999, CSI is a small, growing company that values individuals who are results-oriented, self-starters and innovative thinkers. We are currently looking for the following positions:

Mechanical Engineering Technician
 
CSI has an immediate opening for a full-time, Mechanical Engineering Technician with experience in Industrial Machinery. This key individual reports directly to the Senior Mechanical Engineers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
 
Maintaining current and creating new designs in Solidworks, including:
  • Creating new 2D Drawings and revising existing 2D Drawings
  • Creating and modifying 3D Solid Part files with proper methods
  • Creating and modifying Large Assemblies
  • Solidworks drawing skills such as: dimensioning, revision tables, hole call-outs, tolerances, sheet formats, BOMs, etc.
  • Solidworks part skills such as: extrudes, revolves, fastening features, 2D sketches, relations, properly defining features
  • Solidworks assembly skills such as: mating, sub-assemblies, explode views, toolbox, patterns, configurations
  • Use of Solidworks PDM or equivalent PDM system
  • Locating and selecting Vendor 3D models on websites for use in Assemblies
 
Applying expertise in Machinery and Manufacturing, including:
  • Using measuring tools accurately including calipers, scale, thread gauges
  • Identifying and sizing machine parts such as fasteners, bearings, pulleys, gearboxes, etc.
  • Understanding machine shop processes necessary to manufacture parts
  • Applying tolerances and fits to mating parts
  • Ability to interpret and create accurate 2D drawings for manufacture
  • Selecting proper materials for parts
 
Requirements:
  • AS/AAS of Engineering/Engineering Technician, or equivalent experience and knowledge
  • 3+ years of CAD and Machinery experience
  • Experience with Solidworks parts, drawings, and assemblies
  • Experience with Machinery and Machine Parts
  • Previous design experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of machine shop operation and materials
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to communicate well with all business departments, vendors, and customers
  • Prefer candidate who lives within 30 miles of Schaumburg, IL
 
Pay Range: Competitive based on experience
Benefits:  Health Insurance: At this time, CSI does not offer company group health insurance. CSI will provide an additional $100/month towards an individual policy that is purchased and maintained by the employee.
Retirement:  CSI offers a 401K plan to all employees.

Panel Wirer                                         

CSI has an immediate opening for a full-time, entry level Machine Panel Wirer with experience in wiring up electrical panels, terminating connections and electrical testing for motor controls. Must be able to follow direction from engineering plans and drawings; read schematics; use power tools and measuring instruments. This key individual reports to the Quality Assurance Director.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Wire machines to current code, test and inspect
  • Build and wire electrical control boxes and panels
  • Interface wiring between machine and panel
  • Maintain electrical inventory
  • Mark-up existing drawings to accommodate new or modified designs for future machines
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in control panel fabrication, including drilling, mounting of control components, wiring and basic testing
  • Knowledge of PLCs - contactors, overloads, power supplies, etc.
  • Must be able to read & interpret electrical prints and control panel schematics including electrical symbols
  • Familiarity with electrical components including control transformer, circuit breakers, motor starters, overloads, pushbuttons and panel meters
  • Experience troubleshooting machine wiring and electrical components & systems using electrical instruments, including voltmeters, amp meters, etc.
  • Experience working with and assembling pneumatic components and systems  
  • Proficient soldering skills
  • Possess or be able to acquire own hand tools
  • Must understand direction and possess the communication/interaction skills to perform in a team-oriented work environment, including good English language skills
  • Working knowledge of NFPA, NEC and UL codes
Experience:
  • A two-year degree in electronics, electricity or related area preferred
  • 2-6 years job related experience preferred
  • Experience working on machinery for the Blown Film, Converting or Printing Industries is a plus
  • Prefer candidate who lives within 40 miles of Schaumburg, IL

CSI Machinist and Assembly Assistant
 
CSI has an immediate opening for a full-time, Machinist and Assembly Assistant in our internal machine shop. Our machine shop produces parts for our machine building department These parts are 1) used in the building and rebuilding of equipment for the plastics industry, and 2) are sold as replacement parts for our customers. Parts are manufactured in-house when there is an immediate, last minute need or when short run quantities are not economical to outsource.
 
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Organization, scheduling, and manufacturing of various machine parts.
  • Managing all items and supplies necessary for machine shop operations, based on available budgets. This will also include machine tools and those necessary tooling components.
Secondary are of responsibility includes:
  • Design and fabrication of specialty and custom machinery for special projects. These special projects are often driven by direct customer request for new processes. This individual will be required to work directly with engineering and sales in this role.
Requirements:
1)   A working knowledge of shop machines and typical materials is required, including:
  • Prototrak 3-axis CNC knee mill
  • Prototrak 2.5-axis CNC knee mill
  • Prototrak CNC lathe
  • Manual Bridgeport
  • Band Saw, Drill Press, hand drills, etc.
2)   Self-starter who wants to make a difference in a small company

Machine Mechanic Technician
CSI has an immediate opening for a full-time, Machine Mechanic Technician preferably with experience in Blown Film, Converting or Printing Industries. This individual reports directly to the Plant Manager and should be organized, a self-starter and an independent worker. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  •  Fits and assembles components according to assembly blueprints, manuals and knowledge of machine construction to construct, rebuild, and repair machines, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Verifies parts to stock list and blueprints, using measuring instruments, such as calipers and gauges.
  • Lays out hole locations and drills and taps holes on parts for assembly; uses a tape measure.
  • Aligns components for assembly, manually or with hoist, and bolts, screws, dowels, welds, or rivets parts together, using hand tools.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hand and power tools.
  • Checks parts inventory to ensure needed parts and supplies.
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  Requirements:
  • 5+ years of Machine Mechanic experience
  • Experience in Blown Film, Converting or Printing Industries a plus

Machine Controls Engineer Technician

CSI has an immediate opening for a full-time, Machine Controls Engineer Technician preferably with experience in Blown Film, Converting or Printing Industries. Key skills include on the job experience working in Autocad 2-D to generate electrical schematics and panel layouts. Additionally this individual will be responsible for developing new, modifying existing, motion control systems and PLC-based control systems (Allen Bradley, ABB, Rexroth, Exor). This individual reports directly to the Plant Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
“Hands-on” design and development:
  • Developing "specialty" control systems – AC/DC drive based, Servo System based, or PLC based. Our current platforms include, Rockwell Logix 500, Logix 5, Directsoft, Unitronics, Rexroth Servo systems, Exor electronics, and EZ Automation.
  • Developing and programming various PLC and HMI units.
  • Troubleshooting issues and identifying solutions to optimize current PLC and HMI performance.
Overall management growth areas:
  • Determining and enforcing project goals, time-frames and deadlines for the electrical systems of each machine.
  • Assisting the General Manager in determining all controls, electrical, and electronic system designs, as they relate to our equipment platforms, with an emphasis on the continuing improvement of our existing systems.
  • Generating accurate B.O.M.s so that purchasing and procurement can order the necessary parts and materials.
  • Collaborating with the Sales Department to generate quotes requiring "specialty" control systems.
  • Traveling to customer locations for field service and start-ups of new projects (one week on average every other month).
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of Control Engineering experience
  • Experience with Allen Bradley, ABB, Rexroth, Exor or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Autocad 2-D to generate electrical schematics and panel layouts
  • Experience in Blown Film, Converting or Printing Industries a plus
  • Previous experience as Project Management or Managerial position a plus
  • Prefer candidate who lives within 30 miles of Schaumburg, IL

Junior Controls Engineer
 
We are seeking a Junior Controls Engineer to join our team in Schaumburg, IL.
 
 Responsibilities (include, but not limited to the following):
  •  Assist the General Manager, in determining all controls, electrical, and electronic system designs, as they relate to our equipment platforms. With an emphasis on the continuing improvement of our existing systems.
  • Responsible for generating and/or updating electrical schematics and panel layouts for each project using Autocad 2-D.
  • Developing and programming various HMI units - Rexroth Servo systems, Exor electronics, and EZ Automation.
  • Developing "specialty" control systems, whether AC/DC drive based, Servo System based, or PLC based. Our current platforms include, Rockwell Logix 500, Logix 5, Directsoft, Unitronics.
  • Generating accurate B.O.M.s for each project, with which purchasing and procurement can order necessary items.
  • Assisting the Sales dept. in generating quotes requiring "specialty" control systems.
  • Field service and start-ups of projects. On average this is a once a month possibility, typically a 5-day trip.
  • Ensuring the people that work with you (production floor personnel) have the necessary tools, supplies, parts, and system information, to ensure their productivity and ability to complete projects on time.
  • Assisting with trade shows. Once every 3 years on average.
